Long coveted in the south, this ornamental tree blooms spikes of pink, purple, white or red flowers which crown its branches in late July and August.  Int he fall, the leaves turn a brilliant red/orange, and its peeling bark provides winter interest, as well.  This tree or bush loves heat and humidity, tolerates drought once established, and grows quickly.
