Starting to turn indoors for our relaxation and recreation? While there are plenty of beautiful days ahead, we do start to spend more time indoors with the colder weather. There are a number of health benefits of having and caring for plants, and we are in need of much of these today as we are spending more hours indoors than ever before.
Of all the houseplants to add to your home, Al's consistently recommend the following plants for their ability to create cleaner air, decrease stress, reduce noise, create oxygen, remove carbon dioxide, and connect you with nature. For optimal air filtering, NASA recommends placing at least one plant per 100 square feet of your home or office space. So for all us #plantparents out there, that sounds like full permission to add at least 20-40 plants, depending on the size of your home.
Peace Lily
When it comes to indoor plants, peace lilies are some of the easiest to care for. These lovely plants surely brighten up a living space with their dark green leaves and white blooms that are more like specialized leaf bracts that grow hooded over the flowers. Like many popular indoor plants, peace lilies enjoy medium to low light. Peace lilies are one of the best air purifying plants available.
'Kimberly Queen' Boston Fern
The 'Kimberly Queen' Boston fern is admired for its desirable traits as a houseplant. Kimberly Queen ferns have long, graceful fronds, as well as a higher tolerance for light than other species, and are more tolerant to dry conditions. An added bonus is that Kimberly Queen ferns can be displayed in any number of ways, including on pedestals or in hanging baskets.
Spider Plant
What's old is new again! The spider plant is among the most popular and easiest to grow of all hanging houseplants, and probably takes you right back to the ‘60s! This mature plant has arching leaves and small white flowers that look great on a macramé hanger. Plus, it’s also a great choice if you’re looking for air filtering plants.
Chinese Evergreen
Chinese evergreen is one of the best plants for beginners, because it tolerates just about every indoor condition. Most varieties have rich green leaves attractively variegated with silver. It's a slow growing plant, and won't take over the space allotted.
Anthurium Lily
Anthuriums are durable and fairly easy to grow indoors. They have large, deep green, lance or heart shaped leaves and produce long lasting, brightly colored heart shaped bracts.
Dracaena
Dracaena is a slow growing houseplant, usually multi stemmed at the base. Mature Dracaena grows well as a houseplant in nearly any location. It only requires minimal care to produce the deep green foliage and lush growth. Dracaena enjoy medium light but can tolerate low light conditions.
Variegated Snake Plant
If you're looking for an easy-care houseplant, you can't do much better than a snake plant. Most snake plant varieties have stiff, upright, sword-like leaves that may be banded or edged in grey, silver or gold. Snake plant's architectural nature makes it a natural choice for modern or contemporary interior designs.
