GROWING GUIDE: Fruit Tree Spraying Made Simple

 

WHEN

Winter (when trees are dormant

Horticultural Oil

Kills overwintering insects and certain disease spores on dormant trees. Do not mix with liquid copper. Apply when temperature is above 40°F.

Spring 1 (when buds start to swell)

The above basic applications should control the most common diseases and insects affecting fruits. If other problems should occur, here are some suggestions of sprays to use:

Fruit Tree Spray (Captain, Malathion and Carbaryl)

Controls both insects and diseases.

Eight (Permethrin)

Controls insects.

Fung-Onil (Chlorothalonil)

Controls diseases. Can be used as a dormant spray on peaches for leaf curl.

Orchard Spray (Sulfur and Pyrethrins)

Controls insects and diseases naturally - great for organic gardening.

All Seasons Spray Oil

Controls insects naturally - great for organic gardening.

Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew (Spinosad) 

Controls worms, caterpillars and borers naturally Great for organic gardening.

Traps

For apple maggot and codling moth.
