Western Hemlock
Tsuga heterophylla
Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) is a native Willamette Valley evergreen conifer with soft, feathery needles and a graceful, often-pendulous leader, forming a tall, conical specimen well-suited to cool, moist, acidic soils in shade to part sun. Best for large-property specimens, screens or naturalized plantings, it prefers consistent moisture and protection from hot, dry exposures, tolerates deep shade, supports local wildlife and responds well to mulching and supplemental summer irrigation during establishment.
